What is this world coming to? And in Austin of all place.

A teenager from Austin, Texas, was arrested and charged with making a “terroristic” threat over a violent joke he made about a school shooting on Facebook. He faces up to eight years in prison for the ill-advised joke that was sarcastic in nature, according to the teen’s father.

this is BS and he needs a better lawyer, ridiculous abuse of the system against an innocent kid.

Actually it was during game play. Not the first kid to be arrested for something
like this..
You cannot say what he said and then expect it to be ignored because you put
LOL and JK at the end. What if someone put that on the internet and then acted on it
and the authorities response was, "he put LOL and JK at the end"?

It's a sign of the times. You can't fuck around like that in this day and age of social media.

I think it's important to understand the context of how the "threat" was made.

It wasnt like he just blurted it out, someone said something and he made a sarcastic reply.

Not sure if that met the definition of a threat but evidently a judge thought it did. So I have to wonder if the judge was given the entire context of the story or if the judge even read it.

But nowadays when it comes to this kind of stuff people are hypersensitive.
Moved to proper Forum.

He's being made an example of. There's a legend in the Britsh Navy of a common sailor who was court-martialed for what he thought was a petty offense. When the admiral pronounced a sentence of death, the man exclaimed "I can't believe I'm to be hanged for striking an officer!" To which the admiral is said to have replied, "Son, you're not being hanged for striking that officer; you're being hanged so that others may not strike their officers."

If he goes to jail I'm leaving this stupid fucking planet with the dumbest people fucking anywhere. Its called free speech. Plus 155,000 people die every day and 305,000 people are born everyday. Why is everyone so scared. its like 911 only 3000 people died - its not that many and now we have to take forever at the airport. Now this kid goes to jail bc he makes a joke. WTF

All those innocent people who died in the 911 incidents, and your best take is to selfishly complain that now it takes you longer to fly because of the lines at the airports?

The problem is, what if it wasn't a joke? What if he realized what he posted, realized that he could get into trouble, and added jk and lol to make it look like a joke? What then, if he goes out and actually does it?

I'll tell you what then. You, and a host of other nimrods with IQs south of the century mark would be screaming at the cops "How could you NOT have done something? Didn't you see what he wrote he was going to do?" And when the cops responded "But he said he was just kidding!" you all would have pilloried and vilified whatever idiot commander made the decision not to pursue this.

The dad said the kid doesn't know what's going on in the world because he's always on his computer. That father is either criminally stupid or he's in denial. Being on the computer all day is the BEST way to keep up with current events, not the worst. That kid knew EXACTLY what he was doing, and he's getting EXACTLY what he should, so that others don't do the same thing.

And if you decide to leave this planet as a result, I'm guessing you won't be much missed. But that's all right; this is Texas, and if we miss you we can always reload. jk

It wasn't a joke I'm completely serious. Your safety is an illusion. Death can come for you at any time. Why worry about it. You should kill people either or harm people in any way. What I'm saying is if you say that you have freedom of speech and then people use that freedom of speech and say some fuck up shit. Well oh well you have to deal with it. You can't have freedom of speech and not freedom of text. Text or posting on a website is considered speech. Just because a very very small amount of people died one day a long time ago or in a school a few times, you can't now just ignore that there is freedom of speech in this gay country. This whole species wants to have things both ways and you can't have it both ways. This kid has the right to say or type whatever he wants anywhere he wants just like the rest of us do. Problem is people put emotion on things and override logic. Just like I said before the planet isn't worth saving hopefully a meteorite hits it soon and puts it out of its misery. how is that for a threat. Man I'm going to be in trouble now because I just threaten the whole planet.
