What's Happening in the Business?

As I mentioned before I've pretty much left the business, but a friend from Europe is coming to stay here and wants my input about it.

Yes, I've been out of the loop but I've just looked at the Eros VIP ads where I expected at least some people to be making money, but I didn't see any names I recognised (I didn't look at the whole lot - there are pages) and fees were as low as $300 per hour. In NY!

Any recommendations where she might advertise I'd be happy to pass on (she's used to working in London with people she's known for years, so it's all new here).

Well, that's a pretty broad question

First, remember this is still the world's oldest profession & we aren't in any danger of that changing anytime soon

That said a couple of themes (in all cases I'm generalizing):

*We are still in the midst of a recession. NYC in particular has been hit hard. Some "banker hobbyists" now actually have budgets (or in the case of client entertainment no longer have budgets for this kind of thing)

*More touring gals (nationwide) seem to be reporting poorer than anticipated results. Some are even backing away from tours.

*In general it seems there is an overall downward pressure on pricing in the "advertised" market. That isn't to say some largely UTR gals with regulars aren't doing quite well.

*The ad content in general seems to have gotten quite brazen with much more discussion of specific acts or "menu items," yet another symptom of a very competitive market.

Leah, unless your friend is an extreme masochist I think she may want to stay clear of SF Redbook.As far as Eros goes I have noticed that the number of women in the VIP section for SF Eros has more than doubled over the past year .I think this may has a lot to do with Eros changing its rates , and making it more affordable to advertise in both sections .I am part time , so this may vary for others, but I have not felt a decline in new , or existing clients over the past year. I think that the extra ads in that section may actually be attracting more clients because of all the new faces.

Your friend may want to place a visiting ad for Miami before she comes out just to get a feel for how well she may do before she makes any decisions.The bad economy is obviously affecting all business including ours, but she will probably not notice it as much if she sees this as more of a part time occupation.

Thanks, I had no idea and I'll let her know. I don't think she's too keen on visiting NY after living in London for years, she's more interested in travelling through than anything. Didn't know the SF Redbook was abusive but paying attention... Yes it won't be the only thing she's involved in.

I have removed the offending board suggestion. Being east coast centric, and northeast to boot, I wasn't aware of Red's bad reputation, I just knew it existed in the Bay area.

Of the sites I did mention, you take them with a grain of salt. Like here, they have those that lurk and post or those that seem to revel in antagonizing others. Most of the boards to a reasonable job moderating.

Remember, this post comes from the guy who wants to be with Ed and the rodent. Okay, maybe just Ed. He seems okay since he selected you to be his owner/companion/buddy. Lucky dog, pun intended.

LOL,I will forgive you SR as long as you do not try to lure my dog in to the Motel 6 when I am not looking. When I was still fairly new to the Internet I considered putting up an ad on RB because it is local for me. I am sure that the board has some perfectly nice clients who just go there to lurk, and check reviews, but the abuse that I saw on the main board was just so bad(people outing each other/ posting your personal info online/ stalking/beating others up over rates that are either too high , or too low etc etc) it just scared me off the place permanently. I know that other escort boards have the same issues , but RB takes it to the extreme, and seems to tolerate the abuse far more than most boards do. Good old SF there must be something in our water here.

Just so you know, I don't do Motel 6 (etc.), nor would I subject Ed or you to it. I'm more of a Relais & Chateaux kinda person. Thanks for explaining RB's "flavor." No one needs outing etc.
