Supplements....What's Hot and What's not?
So, I am on a serious health kick. I am not into taking all of those weird latest and greatest "miracle" stuff, but I do want to know what you health nuts take!
I take a multivitamin, extra magnesium & calcium, b12 and Recently pre/probiotics along with healthier eating.
I have been reading about CLA and various things for muscle recovery as well. I read some studies that while CLA can help decrease fat, it floods your liver with fat. Is this true? Harmful? Is it worth trying?
Muscle recovery- Glutamine or no? What else helps?
I don't do stimulants of any sort, besides small doses of caffiene from tea or the occasional soda. With that said, in your opinion/s what are good supplements for fat burning and muscle recovery? Please add anything else you love, like favorite meal replacements, macro nutrient rich substances etc.

DIM = Diindolylmethane
Good for both men and women. Metabolizes the 'bad' estrogens. Naturally found in broccoli and other cruciferous veggies.
For the ladies, bad estrogen build up in breasts and uterus. Can cause cancer, pain during menstrual cycles, and a host of other things.
For us gents, estrogen cancels out testosterone. Testosterone is needed to build muscle, which is therefore good for burning fat. Bad estrogen can build up in prostate, causing cancer.
Also, helps get rid of man-boobs.
Lipozine or what ever I heard is good, I tryed it long ago when it first came out and it was super cheap and over the counter, but I figured because it was cheap it didnt work lol now I guess I was wrong looking into trying it after I do some investagating lol Dont take that ali or what ever, that causes your fat to come out like oil and all and well not good you will get the uh ohs, and all, friends took it I cant I dont have a gall bladder, so again I have to be careful what I take but b12 should be good I heard it gives you more energy and it makes you feel better, but shit I dont know other then that, I used to lose pounds in a couple days when I was mma fighting but thats cause my trainer stuck my ass in a sauna with a plastic sweat suit on and I didnt eat and drank only little sips of water and exercised my ass off, I dont think I would survive that again though lol
Oh shit. This thread is gonna get locked and the OP will be banned. ECCIE is weird like that, even if youre posting about legal stuff you can buy at the store.
Supplements: The good, the bad, and the ugly.
The good: If you have a real problem; genetic or old people with chronic issues... they can literally be life savers. If you've had an illness, accident, postpartum, etc. they get you what you need till back and at-em.
The bad: you SHOULD be getting everything you need from a good diet... people use the supplements because they are deficient (or think so) BUT they should be changing their diet instead... they are used as a crutch, although many aren't really aware of that aspect.
The ugly: When you supplement things your body needs it won't work to get it from your food since your body senses that there is plenty around it won't produce it any more. These functions can be lost at least for a period... for example testosterone supplements cause a loss of sex drive... the male body senses all the testosterone turns off that function... OUCH! So you can cause your body to stop making certain enzymes by supplementing... you'll stop having a taste for those foods that your body used to need to produce it.
The "ugly" is not well known... you'll hear a lot about it over the next 10 years... the SAD diet is literally starving the country.

Maybe I should re-phrase, so there is no confusion. I would hate to get banned
What has aided you in the past in muscle recovery and faster fat burning?
I did forget to mention and so stupidly of me sorry grape fruit I ate alot of grape fruit it attacks body fat and its a big dose of vitamins I wish I would have remembered this earlier sorry but I will be at store it does really help sweetie.
I have heard that and pineapple but I eat pineapple for different reasons
You're talking quack medicine.
Most of these things are sold as "food supplements," which means they are very loosely regulated. Their content and purity aren't regulated. They make totally unsupported health claims.
Even when they "work" in some sense, your body can usually only use a small amount and then it throws away any excess. More than the useful dose can even be harmful.
When there is some health benefit, it's usually very minor.
You should also consider that you are really talking about chemicals and drugs. You're talking about taking some chemical and hoping it has some beneficial effect on your body. You're tinkering with your metabolism. Just like any other drug, if it has significant beneficial effects at one dose, it has some side effects, and the side effects and risks get stronger the more you take.
For instance, fish oil has been one of the "magic" supplements for many years. Now there growing evidence it increases the risk of prostate cancer.
I take my multi-vitamin for women, lysine & gotu kola to prevent thinning skin which increases cellulite visibility, omega 8, Sam-e for mood support, potassium gluconate for joint and nerve health, plus add iron during my cycle and cranberry extract when dehydration strikes. I am plagued with sciatica, a painful nerve disorder, and recently changed to acetaminophen as my daily anti-inflammatory.
As for new "miracle drugs", I've been taking ProTandim daily for the last month. Researchers claim it reduces oxidative stress by 40% in this amount of time. Additionally, this blend of organic herbs can prevent over 100 major diseases including Alzheimer's, some cancers, Parkinson's, etc. I'm always restless, so am not able to pinpoint any substantial increase in my energy levels or what they should be attributed to. I'm just happy to be healthy, physically strong, and slowly sloughing off levels of depression.
Supplements? The only thing supplements really do is supplement the income of their makers. You have to make a long-term and often sizable investment in supplements for them to do you any real good. It's my opinion that you invest that money instead in a qualified personal trainer and nutritionist.
Muscle recovery
- Sleep. Best thing for muscle recovery
- Eat. Proper nutrition will feed your body to aid muscle recovery. Find the appropriate protein, carb, and fat (p/c/f) ratio for your goals.
- Exercise. Only Three to five days a week, the other days you are for rest and recovery.
Fat burning
- Sleep. Recharges your body for a day of fat burning.
- Eat. Five to six healthy meals a day, each spaced three to four hours apart. My fit foods, diesel body shop, and other prepared meal makers in the area can be expensive as fuck. But they are relatively healthy and offer good p/c/f balance.
- Exercise. Three to five days a week. Weight training has shown to promote fat burning more than cardio. Push and pull weights for a bit, and then go run run run or step step step.
Rinse and repeat.
+1 with Kanyon and BillC, dont believe the hype!! good diet is way more beneficial than supplements!! I eat really good day in and day out I do NOT take any supplements, I am 45 years old and in perfect health!!!
yes some supplements are good, but for most part far and few between
It's my opinion that you invest that money instead in a qualified personal trainer and nutritionist.

Don't overeat, eat a reasonably balanced and varied diet, and you'll be as well off as someone with a nutritionist unless you've got some sort of unusual medical condition.
For that matter, a "nutritionist" is likely to be some nutjob who believes in some weird theory like Neutralistic veganism and is going to suggest a diet that has too little of some things, or too much of others.
