JS42....I agree about Grandview. I played softball and indoor soccer in Grandview for many years. The hotel in question was a decent place. I stayed there as part of a New Year' Eve celebration many, many years ago.The city has made a conceious choice to let it decline. Truman corners has declined to the point that it has not reached blite status. To this end the City has been rewarded with 30 million in Tiff and grant money from the Federal Government. They will be tearing Truman corners down and rebuilding it. Because of this warchest they are not concerned with tax base revenue. I suspect they will in the future when the tiff money runs out. I hop has also been purchasing businesses and keeping the buisness open under their original name to keep the true ownership from the public eye. The city is going to be fucked when IHOP crumbles to the gound which all cults do eventually. Then 3/4 of Grandview businesses will be empty.
Grandview has indeed gone downhill.....waaaaay downhill. Now the IHOP Church is buying up a lot of the commercial property and from what I understand, a lot of the houses. That could make Grandview's future even more suspect because as I understand it, they don't have to pay taxes!!
Grandview....not a place to be anymore!
Leilani.....Sorry to hear about your friend. Hopefully she will get off easy and learn a very valuable lesson as well. Originally Posted by Bubba

Yeah, IHOP has a heavy presence in Grandview now. They have bought up alot of real estate there, including a whole strip shopping center located at Highgrove and 71 hwy. It's really sad if the reports of Truman Corners being torn down is true. Alot of history and memories for me clear back to when I was a toddler. I grew up in the Ruskin/Grandview area, and although Ruskin has always been alittle rough, it was never really dangerous like it is now. Grandview was a nice, clean, quiet, safe little town except for us highschoolers raising alittle hell and partying. They also bought the patch of land along 71 hywy between Harry Truman drive and Blue Ridge there going to build their international headquarters there. JS did you graduate from Ruskin or Grandview.
They tore down Bannister Mall a few years ago, and crime had alot to do with that. When people see the downward spiral of a whole community and nearby neighborhoods, "white flight" usually happens. Which is exactly what happened here. Those who choose to stay in the general area of KC moved to the suburbs on the outskirts of the city, like Blue Springs, Lees Summit, the Belton/Raymore area, and Peculiar. So mucho tax dollars has left this area without much of it being replaced.
The younger crowd may be surprised to hear that Grandview was a real nice place to live and it wasn't that long ago either. Hell, I'm really not that old (40s) the place just went downhill pretty fast. Originally Posted by JS42

The church people can not use IHOP. The recent news story in the KC Star used the term IHOP to tell of the troubles of a murder plan by the cult. The reporters on the KC Star need to check the background of the terms they use. I wondered at the time if IHOP, the pancake people would sue the KC Star.
Wow, sounds like a creepy cult alright.
Leilani hope your friend is OK! Originally Posted by SinsOfTheFlesh
