phone service

I know a hobby phone is essential but what services do you use for the hobby? I have tried a couple of services but I don't like them. First it is hard to set up without some connection to your real life. The biggest is that they all seem to have a monthly rate. When you buy time on a prepaid card it is only good for a month.

Maybe some of you are more active than I am in the hobby but I only get to do this once in a while. If I did it once a month that would be a lot. That is one damn expensive phone call to have to renew the service every month to make 2 phone calls.

Any recommendations? When they talk about burner phones is that what they are talkng about, the pay as you go phones you can buy at Target?

Thanks

There are some by the month plans that if you put $100 in your account, they are good for one year. I know T Mobile in the States offers this option, there must be others. I use Rogers in Canada that has this policy. Every month they subtract 5 bucks for 150 texts, I don't make voice calls unless absolutely necessary. Always have money left at the end of the year. Throw in another 20 bucks before the year ends, and the clock restarts for another year and rolls over the remaining balance.
