What are they exactly anyway? Hipsters, that is.

Can someone please explain to me what EXACTLY a hipster is? I am serious. Skinny jeans, dirty big beards? What? Yes, I know urban dictionary is my friend. I just wanna hear it from others.

Like "WOW" Baby-o. Those cats know where it's at. You Dig?
Maynard Ferguson could lay it on you before he turned into Gilligan. Unreal!
They groove in all the cool happenings, free of Fuzz, takin' in all the soulful notes, bangin' on the bongos and spouting lines. They're the "In Crowd".

Later Baby-o.... gotta make a run to the cat box.

Correction - Maynard Grubbs not Maynard Ferguson the jazz musician. (Hell to get old)
Hipsters are people, usually male, who try hard to be "hip" (au courant, "with it," "in the know") but in trying so hard, they are actually conforming. They affect an air of superior boredom, as in "Oh, OK, I guess I'll go out to hear that band tonight, but I'm not going to get excited about anything." There's a sort of smug, jaded superiority.

Skinny jeans are a give-away, as are outlandish mustaches on guys: handlebars, etc. They don't drink Lone Star because it's cheap, they drink it because it's so ironic that they're hip but drinking a low-class beer (remember that pseudo-superiority.)

Verbally, they use a lot of hip abbreviations, like the realtor-created "SoCo" which we never had before. That came from NYC's "SoHo," (south of Houston St.) and that spread across the country to San Francisco ("SoMa," South of Market), and more.

So you've got elaborately mustached, skinny pants and messenger bag wearing, ironic abbreviation dropping, wanna be intellectual superiors. My main objection is that they clog the music venues and talk over the music because they're too hip to be honestly appreciative of it. They also talk down the wait staff because, remember, they're not drinking Lone Star because it's cheap, they're drinking in these "dives" to be ironic.
I love your definition, TT!

2 ballcaps and 1 Stetson. Stetson is 13 years old as has been worn 3 times (None of which were in Texas). Nothing wrong with the hat, it's just too nice and I'm afraid to screw it up. I will be needing another hat though for working out in the sun. Any suggestions for hat shops?

Most nice hats in one place, 20-2000 (not a misprint): Hat Box downtown on 6th, worth a visit anyway;

Get educated: Capra & Cavelli, downtown or NW around 38th St./MoPac;

Get styled: Sim's Hat Shop, N. Lamar/Anderson (can't say you've shopped hats until you've shopped where the brothers shop)

Once you've been schooled and styled, pay less: Burlington Coats, the one on Fiskville (see above comment about shopping for hats where the brothers shop); and Stein Mart (yeah, it's a whitebread, Jewish housewife store, but I bought my last two hats at the one on Anderson Lane for under 30 bucks - both, including a light work hat.)

Note that there are no hipsters at any of these.

You may now resume your originally scheduled thread.
Bwahaha! You guys are cracking me up! No hipsters @ any of those places. Nope. I do kinda like the Buddy Holly glasses on a man/woman. Only if they have the lenses though, lol!

Much appreciated TT. Now...when last seen...Scarlett was laughing her ass off.

I think all Hipsters are their own worst enemy. They look at the fashion de jour and try to blend in but end up going over the top. Then they standout like sore _______________ (<--- fill in your own body part)

Probably the worst afront by the Hipsters had to be the Urban Cowboy phase. Now that really should have given y'all cause to blow your oats.
