Burlesque in Austin

A few months ago I went to the Burlesque Festival here in Austin.

While entertaining I missed the "old time" agenda which usually had comic routines included. There weren't any other than the MC spouting off a few jokes in between acts.

Many moons ago, when my buddies and I would go to the Burlesque theatre in Cleveland, we generally accepted the fact that there might be one or two ladies that were hot. The others were generally "artists" and not "lookers".

Is anyone aware of a burlesque club that has comic acts?
Spyder House is located one block off Guadalupe St. at 24th St., north of UT campus. They have a monthly variety show (coming up this Saturday), and frequent burlesque shows (next one on Sep. 19, then a big show on Oct. 10.) There are burlesque/vaudeville/variety shows at least once a month at other clubs around town, but Austin has no full-time burlesque clubs.

I'll bet everyone will agree, the best troop in town is the Jigglewatts, bar none. No comedy but the women are all extremely pretty and the cream of the crop of talent in town, many have won national recognition. the best is CocoLectric and she is a well worth the trip just to see her.

I think they actually performed at the BurlesqueFest. There were so many competing that night I lost track (not hard to do for me).

Yes, they have a good presence at the festival and have regular shows in town. I've been wanting to pursue a sideline in burlesque but have to get my sciatica in hand first. I could primarily sing but love to dance, so it remains a dream for now. The shows are really fun and creative so worth checking out at least once. :-)
