Cost or Convenience?

If you're a client who buys an occasional gift for a provider......

Do you lean towards gifts in a certain price range or gifts that you can buy at a location convenient and along the way?

Say you are for sure going buy a gift for a lady. Would it be more important to you for the gift to be convenient for you to get your hands on, or is it more important for the gift to have a lower price point?

Such as, I really like Andes OR Special Dark chocolate from CVS. I know there's a CVS on every corner and the heavenly chocolate is less than $3. So in this case, it's fairly convenient and affordable. However, some gifts don't meet both affordable and convenient. So, what's your preference?

Cheap/low cost, but out of your way?

Slightly higher in cost, but right along your path to sexy time?

If a provider were going to base the gifts she lists on her personal website off of your advice, would you tell her to list cheap gifts, or gifts that could be found on every other corner? In this hypothetical scenario, you can pick one or the other, but not both.

Great topic! In my experience the guys who bring me gifts usually tend to put a bit of thought into them. My favorite flowers are tulips and a gentleman brought me fresh bulbs amongst a few other things on my profile just to let me know that he had done his homework. I was very flattered! Then, back when my "superman" Dwight Howard was with Orlando, a client brought me all kinds of Magic gear and green m&m shoes (a possible new tattoo idea). And I am always amazed when guys bring things that are the right size and actually look great on me...I love a man with good taste! Wines, cheeses, and gifts we can share together are also a favorite. I'm ashamed to say that I was surprised at how thoughtful and sweet the true gentlemen around here are

Hershey special dark..... Blech. Whole foods has a great selection of darks.

Seriously, a gift card from a book store for the lady that buys books. A basket of fruit for the lady vegan. A date to the plaza art fair for the lady who likes art; the purchase I make is something she has picked out. The object also becomes a fond memory of a nice afternoon.

JR, do you have a price range you stay within when buying gifts? Do you consider a $1 or $2 gift too..... cheap to buy? Is a $100 or $200 gift too expensive to buy? Or would you say the price tag is irrelevant?

I always read the providers bio. For me, part of my reference check is communicating, either email, text or PM. I like to talk about my two favorite gifts in these communicas, flowers and wine. Most providers like one or the other or both.I enjoy sharing the wine with her as we get to know each other. The flowers really give the room a nice vibe.
I ask if she has a vase or a preference on her flower choices that are listed. Same goes for the wine.
Of course I have a budget. But, location and convince are secondary to what I think my provider will like.

As with all gifts, they shouldn't be chosen out of sheer convenience otherwise the meaning and intent behind giving the gift in the first place is lost.
Reading provider profiles or simply just asking what they like always works for me. As long as there is thought behind the gift and not an obvious flower from QuikTrip after thought kind of gift, you can't go wrong.

I think the price is not the main thing. I once brought a lady a sack full for various kinds of grapes because I knew she loved grapes. She was thrilled. But, then there was three other sacks of groceries and I knew it was the end of the month and the money was probably thin. This was a lady who refused to take any tips from me. Pride is important. If you respect a person, the object is to cultivate friendship. If you give something that is too expensive, it can be an insult and hurt. Sometimes, one has to be careful with gifts, at other times it is just "go for broke", it depends upon the situation.

I think that in all cases, a gift is special if a person puts some thought into the purchase.

I have this certain client that brings me a very thoughtful card every time he comes to see me, and other times he may bring perfume of my choice from my bio or roses. No matter what the gift might be from anyone I certainly enjoy receiving them, because I know there was thought put into it when it's picked out.

Try Green&Blacks 70%. There are a few fair trade chocolates there also.

I think it more about being thoughtful then cost or convenience.......don't mind going out of my way or spending a bit more for someone who make our time special
