I was 14. Had my tonsil's and my adenoids taken out. Couldn't eat solid foods for like 2 weeks. Lost 12 lbs in ten days, which at that age put me at 110 (not a good look for me). Slept for prolly 3 days straight cus of the meds they put me on. On a brighter note I wasn't choking in my sleep and could breathe better.

Lol, that whole ice cream thing is a myth, at least it was for me. I couldn't have dairy because it increased mucus production. And I couldn't have anything with Red 40 in it. I basically survived off of mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese.

Salted lettuce ... it's the salt that helps heal it up. Worked for me. Eat a lot of it.

I assume that your physician told you that it was a must-do?

Supposedly, the recurrent tonsil/throat infections will eventually do some serious liver damage; or at least that's what they told me way back when I was 35 and finally had them out.

And, of course, any hospital stay at all carries the risk of secondary infection, at least here in Baton Rouge it does. I myself picked up Mono there, and wound up spending a total of three weeks inpatient.

You may want to smuggle in some extra pain meds; no way to sugar-coat it: adult tonsillectomies are a real bitch.

I don't know about the lovely Lolita's mucus issues; I ate a boat load of ice cream and pudding, because that was all I could possibly get down my throat for several days. And I wrote notes, because just talking hurt so bad.

I bet you can't wait now, huh? On the other hand, I've had only the very occasional sinus sore throat since, and those are nothing in comparison to the discomfort of infected tonsils. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Lol thanks Hank way to ease my nerves I have heard from a lot of people not to have dairy bc of the mucus thing...Well theres no turning back now I'll be fine..
Lol, that has a terrible ring to it "mucus issues" lol. It was the doctors mandate that I don't have ice cream, but not because I have a particular issue with it. Rather being that dairy products themselves cause mucus and it's supposed to be bad for the surgical site. I remember complaining about it because I thought I was gonna get guilt free ice cream, just like OHD.
