Just passing along some info gathered during a visit to Oriental Massage in Flowood. Not posting a review because to be honest there wasn't much to review. During a therapy session at OM a state licensing board inspector dropped in unannounced and began to interrogate the owner Jenny who was fairly well composed, although by the end of the meeting she was beginning to get a little flustered.
The interview lasted almost 15 minutes. The owner was asked to show her business license, appointment book (I thought that was weird), CPR/first aid certification, code of ethics, massage therapist certificate, continuing education, and some other bureaucratic sounding paperwork. The inspector also wanted to look at the massage rooms and the bathroom. Needless to say all activity basically stopped and towels were reapplied when the inspector started asking questions. And although there was a full house at the time this went down, it sounded like the place was empty.
Right before the inspector left she started asking questions about the types of massages and practices they did. She was particularly interested if they did any Thai massage techniques. It sounded like Jenny did fairly well in answering most of the questions, but I think there were some paperwork items she had follow up actions on.
I also visit Chinese massage from time to time and I can't imagine Chinese massage on Fannin would be anywhere near as organized as OM for an inspection. Don't know if this is any relation to the circumstances that has seen the coast parlors close up shop, but the timing is coincidental.
On a separate note, I asked Jenny about the current staff since. She said the former bunch had "gone on vacation." Now it's Helen, Cindy, and the lady that I saw (not recommended) whose name I didn't catch.
