Inspection at Oriental Massage

Just passing along some info gathered during a visit to Oriental Massage in Flowood. Not posting a review because to be honest there wasn't much to review. During a therapy session at OM a state licensing board inspector dropped in unannounced and began to interrogate the owner Jenny who was fairly well composed, although by the end of the meeting she was beginning to get a little flustered.

The interview lasted almost 15 minutes. The owner was asked to show her business license, appointment book (I thought that was weird), CPR/first aid certification, code of ethics, massage therapist certificate, continuing education, and some other bureaucratic sounding paperwork. The inspector also wanted to look at the massage rooms and the bathroom. Needless to say all activity basically stopped and towels were reapplied when the inspector started asking questions. And although there was a full house at the time this went down, it sounded like the place was empty.

Right before the inspector left she started asking questions about the types of massages and practices they did. She was particularly interested if they did any Thai massage techniques. It sounded like Jenny did fairly well in answering most of the questions, but I think there were some paperwork items she had follow up actions on.

I also visit Chinese massage from time to time and I can't imagine Chinese massage on Fannin would be anywhere near as organized as OM for an inspection. Don't know if this is any relation to the circumstances that has seen the coast parlors close up shop, but the timing is coincidental.

On a separate note, I asked Jenny about the current staff since. She said the former bunch had "gone on vacation." Now it's Helen, Cindy, and the lady that I saw (not recommended) whose name I didn't catch.

Kripes, that would kill a good massage trip. I'd have made sure to leave my ass hanging out for the inspector to get a good look at, that would probably stop the inspections for a while by itself. At least maybe make her sick to her stomach that trip. lol

Seriously, that's the first I've heard of that sort of thing. Hope the few places we have around here stay active.
Does any one remembers the old Hot Stone place that was in the shopping center at Pear Orchard and County Line Rd in Jackson for a short time several years ago? I was just leaving from there one day when a similar inspection started, next time I stopped by it was closed up.

I looked up some of the regulations (PDF) for massage therapy in Mississippi and all the stuff ms_fella mentions are in there. And when the regulation talks about oral procedures, it is not exactly what we would like it to be

I think the most important thing for an establishment is that there is at least one licensed therapist in the place, and I believe that is the case for Oriental Massage.
