My pleasure to announce the death of another left-wing-nut narrative

The semi-automatic Assault Rifle, aka a black thing-a-ma-jiggy, in left-wing-nut parlance.

It seems the loon, TBD if a Troon, used a Mauser 30-06, bolt action rifle. That is a single shot, 3-5 round magazine that dates back to 1906 and has been produced world-wide ever since. Think Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan even. Totally, a true classic weapon of war for many, many decades. And they are cheap-cheap (think $300-$400 range), except for "collectible" versions.

Notwithstanding, a cold bore shot from 200 yards is a remarkable achievement, typically requiring a whole lot of practice. One other item of note: it's highly likely that the scope on that rifle cost more than the rifle, but we do not know that item just yet.

Anyway, sorry for your narrative loss. May it rest in pieces.
The Mauser rifle is an excellent sniper rifle for that range. Powerful, fast and accurate. Anyone employed or inclined to do this had to have a background in precision shooting already. The sniper probably missed his aim point by a few inches low. If he had to take another shot it would have been adjusted for. But I'm sure this was a one shot deal and get the fuck outta there.

Are you maintaining that the assassin possessed sniper skills?
The media coverage suggests he was a UVU student or someone affiliated with the university.
They're sayin' he was familiar with the layout of the campus!
(He's gotta be a fruitcake nutjob with an agenda!)

Yeah sure, you betcha.
A 12 yr old's shoulder would be torn to shreds on the kick from that mule.

... Kinda side with Why-Yes and Royamcr on this.
I also believe it was a trained shooter.
... But, like-with most things - let's see how it all plays out.

Ya center mass is bigger target, but in a one shot scenario a head shot is almost a guaranteed kill. Body shot is a bigger overall target to disable or wound, but smaller than a head for a near guaranteed kill. Shooter also wouldn't know if he was wearing a vest.

He may have practiced, and probably stepped off the distance before hand to sight in the best he could. Then practiced shooting at that range. Wouldn't take more than a day to get good. Training would help with the actual trigger pull at a live target. Gotta have nerves of steel at that point. Heart rate pounding, hand shaking, all that going on and easy to miss.
