The semi-automatic Assault Rifle, aka a black thing-a-ma-jiggy, in left-wing-nut parlance.
It seems the loon, TBD if a Troon, used a Mauser 30-06, bolt action rifle. That is a single shot, 3-5 round magazine that dates back to 1906 and has been produced world-wide ever since. Think Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan even. Totally, a true classic weapon of war for many, many decades. And they are cheap-cheap (think $300-$400 range), except for "collectible" versions.
Notwithstanding, a cold bore shot from 200 yards is a remarkable achievement, typically requiring a whole lot of practice. One other item of note: it's highly likely that the scope on that rifle cost more than the rifle, but we do not know that item just yet.
Anyway, sorry for your narrative loss. May it rest in pieces.
