OLD HAMBONE IS STILL AROUND

Thanks for the information. I wasn't there, but like everyone else I have been very curious to learn more details. A couple of things that I'd like to ask if it's OK:
1. You say that the IP address that all of the UC cops registered with was an HPD IP address. Didn't aspd have a way of checking to be sure that only one handle was registered at a given IP address? I remember people being banned for having multiple handles from the same IP address.
2. Since the powers that be (or that were) at aspd have been able to go back and reconstruct that some UC were reviewing each other and posting to each other on the board, I assume that you know which screennames were UC. Is there any reason not to reveal that to all of us?

Just an educated guess: it was likely from a range of IP's but not the same IP. But all IP's were from HPD.

If they got more than one screenname from an IP, they would know that it was someone with multiple handles. Maybe that's not correct, but it's the answer I was given.

Well. Its been done before to a certain degree. Kinko's IP was banned at one time, maybe it still is.

Each individual handle may have hundreds of different IP addresses unless they are on dial-up or something like that. Every place you ever logged in is virtually there. You may have DSL and only logged in from home but that doesn't mean you only have one IP. Not a tech guy though so that is the extent of my limited knowledge.

Here's the problem with multiple handles, if someone knows what they are doing, you will never catch them unless they want to be caught.

I had multiple handles on the P. I originally joined as 15yearitch. Lurked for a couple of months then came back about a year later as 16. I had to set up one as SixteenYI because the chat room wouldn't recognize handles that started with a number. But they all pointed to the same email and I let the Mods know.

For those interested, I also enjoyed the pasta and it was good! None of the LEO had an issue with me eating, and one threw my plate away for me, LOL. Not real thrilled about the amount of time spent outside waiting for it, but being sandwiched between two lovelies trying to keep warm made it nice

It is no secret on my end that I am not a computer expert. I learn what I can, as I can. Also, the Mods did not have the same level of "power" as the Admins, so I could not do all that an Admin could do.

There was no "automatic alarm system" to monitor and set off warnings when IPs were used multiple times. This work had to be done the old fashioned way: look up IPs for specific handles, compare and see what matched.

I do not know how you identify a location for an IP; however, I absolutely believe the Admin who told me it was HPD.

I need to list some "cop-out language," so here goes: The handles below are ficticious and placed for entertainment purposes only. Everyone is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law. These handles are merely suspect and may merit further evaluation. The copied threads show other members who are not and never have been suspects. There are many lessons to be learned from this.

This is very informative. I remember one of these reviews specifically. Hindsight is 20-20 but looking back, there is much to learn. Some seasoned guys had enough sense to question what was happening at the time. Others immediately let the little head do the thinking. I for one appreciate the effort you have put in to revealing this information. We would all do well to heed your advice.

It depends on who the admin was. For instance, if it was the skipper, then the info is tainted since it was basically his social to begin with.

Bottomline is that security was inadequate and non-hobby members were allowed to work the door or let unverified people in. All they needed to get in was one chick to be honest with you.

Hambone keeps speaking but you have basically no proof yet. Is that such a wise course of action?
