Sandra Bland, what really happened?

But if he has a reasonable suspicion that there is contraband in the vehicle in which she is sitting he has sufficient legal basis to remove her from the vehicle and search it in the immediate area around her. She was resisting a search when she refused to get out of the vehicle.

At that point he as 3 reasons to arrest her: She's an out of state motorist who committed a traffic violation, she's resisting a search of her vehicle for contraband, and she assaulted a peace officer. Once she begins to "struggle" with him, she's resisting arrest.

She's taken a simple traffic violation and escalated it into higher offenses and ended up in jail for it ....

We spent two hours on the side of the road with him asking for permission to search my car at 3 AM before he gave up with a threat. I just told him that I would wait for him to wake up a judge at 4 AM to get that warrant he needed and have to explain that he had NO "reasonable suspicion". The guy didn't want to admit that he screwed up or that he was kind of pissed that I refused him, a state trooper. My initial offense? As he approached me from the opposite direction on the state highway....he turned on his siren and lights just as he got to me. I did what you're supposed to do. I swerved to the side of the road to give him room. He claimed that he saw me swerve and thought that I was under the influence. I think he was more pissed when he had me recite the presidents backwards and I was down to Millard Filmore when he told me to quit. He probably won't have known if I had gotten it wrong after Hoover.

No, people make mistakes and this woman died for his mistake. I worry that he might do it again if he gets away with it.

That seems weird when you think about it. A accused thug can walk and someone who makes a lane change is stuck? I think a reasonable judge who hear the story and throw out most of this, if not all of it and call it even for time served. What was the name of the judge?

Rewind the "tape" to the beginning of the contact, and evaluate the events.

Some where out there in internet land you can find "factors" considered by patrol officers when evaluating a driver's ability to drive and/or whether or not their are impaired ....

1. Bland passes the trooper who is on a traffic stop.
2. He is behind her some distance after the stop.
3. She changes lanes without a signal into his lane with him behind her.
4. He pulls her over.
5. He casually and politely asks her for her DL and about where she is going.
6. He was on the passenger side.
7. He returns to present her with a WARNING TICKET to sign.
8. She was "irritated" and began to question him about stopping her.
9. She starts up with the cigarette and he asks her to put it out.
10. Up to that point the trooper engaged in no negative activities.
11. She did, when all she had to do was keep her mouth shut and sign.
As was reported she was "intoxicated" on a prohibited substance.
12. Belligerence was her response.
13. She was still being detained.
14. He asked her to step out of the vehicle, which he can do lawfully.
15. She refused.
16. After several orders to exit, he reached in after telling her he would.
17. She slapped him while she was sitting in the car.
18. ........End of story. She goes to jail.

Now you might want to explain why an officer had you on the side of the road for 2 hours? Or would you rather not? You failed to mention what State you were in when an officer asked you to recite the President's backwards for a "field sobriety test" ...... I take it you didn't hit the officer during your stop.

Now the last thing ... what happens in the 3 states where you have committed crimes ... doesn't apply to Texas. Assholes like Bland go to jail.
