eccie will guest or disable your account, but why not go through your showcase and remove all photos and info that you submitted there. i dont understand why ladies dont do this before they ask for their accounts to be removed.

Both of those options close out the showcase but to answer your question its common for girls to leave it as a backup method in case things don't go as planned. Rebuilding a showcase takes some time for folks.
