Wings over Houston - parking question

Brooke Wilde's Avatar
It is at Ellington field this weekend. I'm not familiar with the show or area but thinking my son may love it or it may scare the shit out of him, not sure which yet, which is why I don't want to purchase tickets so I was wondering if someone that is familiar with it could tell me:

Are there any business parking lots in the area where we could park and watch the airplanes without being too close?

Thanks in advance!

My SO was at NASA yesterday and saw the Blue Angels practicing. You will miss all the "on the ground stuff" if you aren't at the show. Plus, you are so much closer to the action. Some of the air show acts don't fly very far from the runway, so you'll miss a lot of them.

Thanks. I'm really worried about how close I can get without making my son uncomfortable. I took him to firefest last weekend and just about everything freaked him out and once they actually lit a fire, he started screaming and crying. I ended up leaving after only 30/40 minutes.

He will be fine a little scare won't kill the boy. I took my niece she was 3 she got scared 2 times once when a mig buzzed the runway and once when the jet truck came by. She enjoyed the show just needed a hug when that truck and plane went by. Apart from that she mostly pointed in the air and said look plane. Lots of fun boy stuff to do like going in a b17 the boy will be the only one who can fit. Men must have been much smaller in the 40s. Lots of "army men" for him to see. It is more a classic air plane show some of those planes are the last one still flying. Its gonna be a lovely day if you go enjoy.

I plan on parking near Genoa Redbluff and the belt way and watching with my son He loved it last year.
We found a good raised area that was in line with and just north of the main runway, the inventory area of Shades of Texas on Farley Street, off Genoa Genoa Red Bluff close to Beltway 8. Most of the planes in the show came right over the top of us and we were able to photograph them all except one, the B24. We left at 3 PM, so it could have come later. This was the first time I had photographed planes in flight with an unobstructed view. All the take-offs and landings were clearly visible.
if they have F-22's yall will be in for a treat.

Boeing, backside of Ellington. That's where they have the training pool for the astronauts, you can see the show from there.

Farley Street is the best for free viewing.

Thanks y'all, awesome imput. I really appreciate it.
Air shows are boring and will give you a sore neck. Why not take the kid to a Nascar race?

Yes feel the excitement as cars drive around in a circle. Have no worries the boy can't hear shit as he can turn left like a boss.
