In most industries a professional has some implication that a person has a certain level of expertise, training, or has met some rigorous qualification or standard in order to be getting paid to do what they do. In this game, all it takes is for one to decide they are willing to fuck for money and once they've been paid they technically are a "professional". Thus, why the term really means nothing and is pretty much just a buzz word, b/c like you said, it's unregulated and anybody off the street can wake up and decide to do it.
