Don't forget that Trump is a convicted felon

Exactly, it was deducted by his corporate interest as a legal expense. That’s tax fraud. Both on the corporate and personal level. It’s also fraudulent on his personal tax return because he didn’t report the payment by his corporations payment to his prostitute as personal income. That’s also tax fraud. And the preparation of financial statements misrepresenting those payments is accounting and securities fraud. Any other person would be sharing a jail cell with Jeffrey Epstein, god rest his soul. Hopefully the orange ape like creature will join Epstein at his destination in the afterlife.

Well, that makes a difference, that the payments to Cohen were deducted by the Trump Organization. Then the Donald wasn't guiltless. He should have found a way to class them as personal legal expenses, which aren't deductible, even though that might have required him to pay Cohen himself instead of through the Trump Organization. The fact that he didn't indicates he and Weisselberg (Trump's CFO) displayed very poor judgement. And/or they played fast and loose with the tax code.

Anyway the IRS would have probably treated this as a civil violation if the offender weren't Trump and weren't famous. He would paid penalties and interest. But criminal charges? Nah.

It never occurred to me that Trump used the payments as deductions because I didn't think he was that stupid or foolhardy.

Or one other possibility, maybe they did it the way they did so that Melania wouldn't find out in any divorce proceedings. Unusual payments to Cohen from Trump personally might raise a red flag in her attorney's eyes.

Why are you folks talking about taxes? That had little to do with his conviction. The 34 counts are listed in the link:

https://www.npr.org/2024/05/30/g-s1-...rial-34-counts

What was Trump convicted of?

Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsification of business records in the first degree, which is a felony in New York. He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned last year.

In 2017, Cohen and Allen Weisselberg, an executive at the Trump Organization, reached an agreement about how Cohen would be repaid for the $130,000 that he sent to Daniels in exchange for her silence. Weisselberg detailed the calculations in handwritten notes that were shown to the jury at trial.

Cohen would receive $130,000 for the Daniels payment, plus $50,000 intended for a technology company that did unrelated work for Trump. That amount was doubled to account for taxes that Cohen would have to pay on the income. Weisselberg then tacked on an extra $60,000 as a bonus for Cohen, who was upset that his regular year-end award had been cut. The total worked out to $420,000.

On a lighter note, damn these NFL playoff games have sucked today. Haha

Why is it that every time someone chimes in to support Trump nobody ever says that he didn’t do it.

He did it, he’s a felon, if he didn’t want to break the law he should have incorporated and lived somewhere where they don’t have the same kind of anti corruption and anti fraud laws.

Otherwise you’re pissing into the wind. Originally Posted by txdot-guy

Another conviction upheld, Trump found guilty by the appeals court in the Eugene Carroll $5 million defamation case. Will Von shitzenpants appeal the defamation ruling of 85 million now??

I guess he could appeal to Elon Musk and have him pay the funding!

After reading the below in the article, what was the point in trying this felony case again (rhetorical question)? What a waste of tax dollars... like I posted earlier in this thread, all felonies are hardly to be considered equal. A fucking speeding ticket is more punitive than this bullshit. Haha

Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined with the court’s three liberals in rejecting his emergency motion.

They found his sentencing wouldn’t be a serious burden since Merchan has indicated he won’t give Trump jail time, fines or probation. Trump’s arguments against the verdict, meanwhile, can be handled as part of the regular appeals process, the majority found.
