The WSJ and the NYT both have plenty of reporting out right now that would indicate the Trump administration wants to play ball more than the Chinese do. Both want the other side to take the first step, to try to de-escalate this mess.

Pxmcc, I agree with you about opinion pieces -- they skew left in the NYT and right in the WSJ. When it comes to news reporting, I believe the NYT skews to the left while the WSJ is smack dab in the middle. China has told the US to “completely cancel all unilateral tariff measures” if Washington wants trade talks, in some of Beijing’s strongest comments on the deepening trade war between the world’s two economic superpowers.

Beijing also said there were “no economic and trade negotiations between China and the United States”, despite repeated comments from President Donald Trump that the two sides were talking.
