Does E-Verify work?

HDGristle's Avatar
OMAHA, Neb. --The owner of an Omaha food packaging company says his business has been unfairly hamstrung by federal immigration officials, who raided the plant and arrested more than half its workforce.

The raid took place despite the company meticulously following the government's own system for verifying the workers were in the country legally, owner Gary Rohwer said Wednesday.

Glenn Valley Foods now is operating at about 30% of capacity as the business scrambles to hire more workers, Rohwer said as he stood outside the plant.

Asked how upsetting the raid was, Rohwer replied, “I was very upset, ma’am, because we were told to e-verify, and we e-verified all these years, so I was shocked.”

“We did everything we could possibly do," he said.

Texas, God bless them, has refused for years to make the use of E-Verify mandatory in the state.

Texas’ conservative Legislature has again and again refused to mandate that most private businesses use E-Verify. Experts say that Republican resistance is rooted in how the system could impact the state’s labor supply and economy.
Something seems wrong here

i believe the owner i also believe this breadcrumb ... from your own link.

breadcrumbs my dude ... breadcrumbs.

Some of America’s largest employers use it, including Starbucks and Walmart, but the vast majority of employers do not. Critics say the system is fairly easy to cheat, particularly with false documents.

It’s called hypocrisy. Not that hard to understand. Despite what they say in public they understand how LEGAL immigrants contribute to our workforce. Originally Posted by txdot-guy

Nebraska Republicans are praising it and pushing it as the future

I know how one could bypass the requirements. I know how the photo-matching works and the TNC process. But I am delighted you followed some of the breadcrumbs.

Why is it only partially implemented in FL? Let's remember that there's no fee. It's not difficult to use.

So why are private employers under 25 employees exempted?

maybe Florida under Ron "Dictator" DeSantis knows something you and Nebraska don't?

why do most big companies not use it? they don't need it. they do their own background checks and document requirements.

so your breadcrumbs leads once again to a false premise about a semi-useless FED verification process

congratulations

and i'm all for vetting employment and any company violating any screening by themselves or using the Gov or both gets a 3 strike rule. after the third time caught knowingly employing illegals their top executives get executed.

how about that?

The question is... Does E-Verify work?

I proudly get to tally you in the "No" column. Thank you.

This legislator believes strongly in E-Verify, despite what happened with Rohwer
