Flooding disaster in Texas

The area in question has limited cell reception and no sirens- so I'm told

The flooding happened during nightime/ sleep hours, so most would not be on point to watch out.

The parks were not suspecting the large down pour as it was, but conditions became very positive for the flooding- especially after a very intense amount of heat drying out the creek areas and making them like concrete.

the reduction of NWS and parks personnel- "may" become a factor at some point, but I'm not ready to completely roll the bus over the current administration. Alas- I'm betting that we are going to see many more events that will demonstrate their complete lack of understanding and empathy with american's throughout the country. They've almost guaranteed it with all the cuts to emergency management, parks, and other social services. You can DOGE all you want, but a lot of services in national parks are done where these folks make a pertinence of money and save many people who visit.

I'm more worried about a large scale event or national disaster- Trumps hired the most inept group of flunkies in history and they will be measured and found to come up short.

That's just it. The *idea* behind DOGE is a good one, but this is the dumbest fucking administration in U.S. history, so they haven't really cut anything that turned out to be a net positive. Gutting the NWS was a dangerous and, as we see here, deadly amount of stupidity.

As was gutting the National Parks. The National Park Service here actually turns a profit of $30+ billion for the federal government every year. They're the last thing that DOGE should be fucking with. Not only is it not "waste, fraud and abuse", the National Parks bring in tens of billions every year. I live near a flood zone, and I Have seen certain homes flooded every few years, and every year, insurance pays for the damages, and they rebuild again.

If you build in a flood plain, which is getting harder to do, you damn well better be prepared for when it happens, 10 years, 50, 100, 1,000, eventually the odds catch up.

Why didn't they have satellite phones, expensive, yes, or NOAA weather radios?

If living is PA has taught me one thing, if you live near water, you better build far above flood plain levels.

Because year after year, they eventually learn why.

those responders are primarily recovery teams. they are called to search for bodies.


there were responders local to the area onsite in a few hours. a Coast Guard plane was dispatched but took 7 hours due to the weather were it should have been less than 2 hours with good weather.
