Military parade to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two, in Beijing


(Reuters) -Chinese President Xi Jinping oversaw a massed military parade in central Beijing on Wednesday to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two.


Here are some of the weapons China's People's Liberation Army put on rare public display in a show of its growing prowess and ability to project power far from the country's shores.
MISSILES:


China unveiled nuclear-capable missiles that can be launched from sea, land and air together, the first time it has shown off its "triad" of nuclear-ready capabilities.



Those included the air-based, long-range missile Jinglei-1, the submarine-launched intercontinental missile Julang-3 and land-based intercontinental missiles Dongfeng-61 (DF-61) and Dongfeng-31 - weapons that are China's strategic "ace" power to safeguard the country's sovereignty and dignity, Xinhua reported.


The Dongfeng-5C (DF-5C) shown on Wednesday is the latest version of a missile programme China began in the 1970s. The missile is liquid-fuelled and capable of releasing multiple, independent warheads on a single target.


The parade featured hypersonic anti-ship missiles that China has previously tested against mockups of U.S. aircraft carriers. Those included the Yingji-19, Yingji-17 and Yingji-20.
Other missiles featured included cruise missiles - the Changjian-20A, Yingji-18C, Changjian-1000 – and other hypersonic missiles the Yingji-21, Dongfeng-17 and Dongfeng-26D with what China's state media said were equipped with "all-weather combat capabilities".



LASER WEAPONS


China has been developing laser weapons as a defence against drone attacks. The full range of its anti-drone systems on display at the parade included a missile gun, high-energy laser weapons and high-power microwave weapons.



State media said that represented a "triad" in the People's Liberation Army's anti-drone

systems.


DRONES:


China showed off drones that can operate underwater and in the air, including drones that could be used for reconnaissance and to strike targets. It also featured unmanned helicopters designed to be launched from ships.


The sea-based systems included submarines, surface vessels and a mine-laying system.

I laughed my ass off at Trump's failed birthday parade. Took me 3 weeks to find it.

I did feel bad for the military vets and active aervice members that had to watch him co-opt their celebration for that snoozefest of a parade.

It is evident that you like most MAGA have never served!
Our military has traditions!
And we dont take our lead from any other military.
That includes GB and France.
But quite a few militarys take thier leads from us!
Our military dosent do shit like that!
Because we dont need to brag or show our strength.
The world knows who we are, or should I say knew who we were!
And that is despite what some say, we were and still are the baddest MFers on the planet!
Those wars that people like to say we lost were lost by the politicians with thier fecklessness and thier inability to make a decision.
That started in Vietnam "a very winnable war unless you have your hands tied" and continues untill the most recent ones with the exception of Iraq #1 that was textbook how to win a war!
As an aside, Vietnam told us later had we continued to bomb Hipong harbor in the beginning of the war for another week they were going to capitulate.
But I digress!
Once something is deemed bad enough to commit the military to you go for throat!
If you notice our military dosen't salute palm out or up like GB and France.
Never noticed huh?
We salute palm down.
Palm out is a sign of subordination where as our palm down salute is a show of respect between warriors!
Not subordination between ranks like so many other countries.
In other words if a buck private encounters a four star general he still salutes palm down not palm up as a subordinate, but palm down as respect between warriors.
Trump was disrespected, our troops know who he is and his opinion of them.
Did you happen to notice the trooper in the squeaky Sherman tank giving the queen Elizabeth wave or the guy carrying the drone flying it around like an eight year old playing with a toy?
Priceless, and funny as shit!
And you can be sure that that tank was squeaky on purpose.
Our military has pleanty of grease, I would know having greased many duce and a half wheel bearings by hand when I was just a young troopie!
So understand that snoozefest was purposefully done.
Once again priceless!
You may be able to order us to do something, but you cant make us like it!
Or keep us from fucking it up!
Did you also notice the whole parade took place at whats called route step!
Not like those other countries where everybody is strack as fuck and marching perfectly with their weapons in weird positions usually goose stepping!
And especially in the case of the chinese with thier war faces on?
Oooo how ferocious!
Make no mistake, we can do it when we want to, but we march not goose step!
Look at the parade after gulf war #1.
But that was because we kicked ass and took names and accomplished the mission quickly and sustained minimal casualties!

Not to entertain one man and stroke his ego!

The problem that I have with politicians using the military to make a political statement is that it degrades the public trust in the military and it makes people less likely to sign up for military service.

The military needs to be as apolitical as they possibly can be and Trump and Hegseth are dragging the military right into the fray.

It’s bad for the military and bad for our political system.
