Analyzing the great Bambino!!!!

They led Babe Ruth into the great laboratory of the Columbia University, figuratively took him apart, watched the wheels go round; analyzed his brain, his eye, his ear, his muscles; studied how these worked together; reassembled him, and announced the exact reasons for his supremacy as a batter and a ballplayer."
"Popular Science Monthly" tests Babe’s brain, eye, ear, and muscles for the secret to his home run swing in 1921.
Tests proved that Ruth is 90 percent efficient as against the human average of 60 percent; that his eyes are 12 percent faster than the ordinary man’s; that his ears function 10 percent faster than the average; that his nerves are steadier than 499 out of 500 persons; that he’s 1½ times the average in attention and quickness of perception.
The psychologists also discovered that Ruth did not breathe during his entire swing. They stated that if Ruth kept breathing while swinging, he could generate even more power.
Major League Career Statistics:
Batting average: .342
Home runs: 714
Hits 2,873
RBI: 2,213
Pitching-W/L record: 94-46
ERA: 2.28
Top Ten in MLB history in the following categories:
3rd on home run list – 714
10th in batting average – .342
2nd on RBI list – 2,213
2nd on all-time slugging % – .690
2nd on all-time on-base % – .474

Someone should have taught him proper breathing!!!!!!

No one hit home runs the way Babe Ruth did. They were something special.
They were like homing pigeons.
The ball would leave the bat, pause briefly, and suddenly gain its bearings, then take off for the stands."

Let the Great Bambino face some left-handed, 100mph, Dominican flamethrowers during the course of his career... like 6'4" 235 lbs Aroldis Chapman ... and let's see how great The Great Bambino would be!
The Great Bambino would be in for a Big Wake Up Call!
(He'd be bailing on every pitch!)

Walter “Big Train” Johnson was better than Chapman.
Let The Great Bambino during the course of his career get a steady diet of the likes of Aroldis Chapman and other Dominican flamethrowers ... instead of tired-armed, working-on-complete-games, 85 mph, BP pitchers ... and the back of his baseball card looks vastly different!
Ya think?

Do you try to act like Eddie Haskell or does it come naturally?

OOF
During the course of his career The Great Bambino had a steady diet of working-on-a-complete-game, dead-armed pitchers ... lobbing up 85 mph BP "fast balls"!
Let The Great Bambino face the likes of Bob Gibson, Steve Carlton, Randy Johnson, Madison Bumgarner or Mariano Rivera during the course of his career!
(Let him face one-batter, 100 mph, flame throwing lefties like Aroldis Chapman ... and let's see what kind of #s he'd put up!)
Next thing you're gunna suggest ... is that Ted Williams could bat .400 in today's game!
Yeah ... okay!

I for one would have loved to see the guy in his hey-day. Nothing beats those huge hitters in box- and watching the huge hits. Ruth, Jackson, Mantle from the older days and then guys like Sammy Sosa and Mark Mcgwire, and lets not forget pops off the Pirates- Willy Stargell with chicken on the hill. (I never really liked Bonds or his style, but will give a nod to the fact that he's racked up the most.)

I miss a lot of players in the early 70's and 80's but watching true sluggers muscling out Homers left and right is always a lot of fun to watch. anyone who can hit a ball 500-plus feet is rockstar in baseball hitting. I would have loved to see some of these guys hit in person.
There were 2 pundits on WFAN the other day asking the 64K question: What type of player would Babe Ruth be like in today's game?
One pundit said that if you were to plug-in Babe Ruth in the Blue Jays World Series lineup ...he'd be nothing more than Daniel Vogelbach!
There Ya Go!

(The next thing you're gunna tell me ... that if Wilt Chamberlain played today he'd have a 100 point game!)
Yeah ... okay!
If he's got Rudy Gobert on him ... he's gunna score 100!
Yeah ... okay!

The longest home run in MLB history is Babe Ruth's 575-foot blast hit in 1921. In the Statcast era, the longest recorded home run is Nomar Mazara's 505-foot shot in 2019.

Nobody’s been close to that. Not even the roided out workout freaks of today.
