McConnell believed it made no sense to impeach Trump because he'd already left office. And he believed the judicial system would address Trump's post election shenanigans. He didn't consider the incompetence of Biden's DOJ.

Mitch’s mistake was that, from 2016 forward, he thought he could control Trump, and use him. Wrong, Mitch. You got played.

Mitch also could have stopped Trump dead in his tracks during 2 different impeachments. But he didn’t, and I bet he regrets that error in judgement.
