Government is a human run enterprise. Humans can be selfish cunts. I.E. government can be corrupted. That’s true for most human organizations. What makes the Trump administration different is the size, scope and brazenness involved.

If we want government to run better we need a leader that won’t pardon those convicted of bribery and other corruption.

Circling back to your theme, I don't think there's a common thread linking Nixon and Trump, that Republican politicians in particular are corrupt and hypocritical. Levianon's explanation is better IMO. Many politicians in both parties are corrupt, and most are hypocritical.

He settled with CBS for $16 million, but another right-wing news source was created from the resulting merger between Paramount and Skydance, not to mention he got rid of a thorn in his side, Stephen Colbert. Colbert's show being canceled right after the merger is too much of a coincidence for me. Paramount/Skydance is also trying to buy Warner Brothers, which owns CNN. That would be another win for Trump from the $16 million settlement. Additionally, most legal experts agreed that CBS had a very strong case and likely would have prevailed as it was widely seen as having little to no merit under the First Amendment. Trump came out golden in that deal.
