F-35 nearly shot down by an Iranian $9999 missile.

Wow close call was able to make an emergency landing.

But GLAD for YOUR opportunity for a cheap shot!

(and Iran's!)

This undeclared, unapproved war isn’t going very well, is it, mates?

i think this is a terrible voluntary needless war, but in no way would i ever root for Iran. i don't think the OP would either. just my sense of the matter. he can correct me of course if i'm wrong.

i think his point is that a cheap missile almost took out a fancy and expensive war bird, one of our best, and one of our outstanding pilots almost died or got captured. makes you wonder about the wisdom of this whole operation, and what we're willing to risk going forward.

my thought is we should call it a win and go home, but i suspect that's not where this is headed. i see Marines on the ground and the Tripoli-which was covering the South China Sea before it was redirected-being pulled into an amphibious assault action with boots on the ground.

no Seal Team or even a Ranger platoon-but maybe a full Ranger regiment-could secure the Strait. thousands of U.S. Marines could tho, i'd say, in a bloody nasty fight..
Yes the OP was about a relatively cheap missile hitting one of our most advanced aircraft. Reports are that no flares or chaff were deployed so it is like it hit the F35 out of the blue with no warning. Likely an infrared heat seeking missile where the F35 is designed to evade radar. Heat from the engines will always be a target.

I'm not in any way ex-military, just research things with some tools and read a lot about our capabilities.

I didn’t find a lot about this online. Just some unconfirmed reports about a video released from the iranians. I assume that the pentagon has it pretty locked down.

Does anyone have any verifiable sources that you would link to?
It’ll take a combined arms force to reopen the Strait. We will need boats in the water and a ground operation to secure the mountainous terrain from which the Iranians are launching and would launch attacks on ships in or near the strait. The current bombing campaign has been to soften any shore defense that prevent ground forces from making a safe landing but we aren’t even sure exactly where the mobile launchers and artillery are located.

Trump was actually informed about that prior to the war by the joint chiefs but in his wisdom he determined that the Iranians would surrender rather than escalate the war by closing the Strait. He was wrong.

Boo fucking hoo. You know damn well the op would be beyond pleased had we lost the pilot and aircraft so he could criticize Trump on the internet. These are the kind of people we’re dealing with. Whether it’s giving the country away to foreigners or military members losing their lives, no price is too high if they can blame it on the president.

^^politics ends at the border tho..

we can point out admin errors in planning without rooting for the bad guys. it's un-American to hope our brave soldiers die just to score political points.

Decades ago it did, but hasn’t since Bush and is 10x worse under Trump. These TDSers would torture puppies if they thought it’d somehow degrade the President.

I don’t blame Kristi Noem for doing what had to be done, but why was she so confident the public would admire her for doing it?

PS. I’m not sure that this story about the F-35 is even accurate or real.
