The Island of Abu Musa has a strategic location and although occupied by Iran, has always been claimed by the UAE, specifically the Emirate of Sharjah. Iranian forces sized the island and a couple others in 1971. Note that the British forces simply stood by while the Iranians forcefully occupied and executed the local police force.

Thoughts of the Munich agreement in 1938 come to mind about the Brits not doing anything.

As the recently departed... and much beloved... Country Joe McDonald said...

(sing it with me now!)

"Be the first one on your block to have your boy come home in a box!"

Here's the rub - when we sang that ditty back in the 60s it was tongue-in-cheek. Today when they sing it in the streets of Tehran, they mean it!

Look up Joe's personal history. You won't like it. But you will see that he HATED that fucking war and the people driving it. I did too.

And I fucking hate this one.

I've been busy with RL for a few days, took my eye offa this thread.

Then I come back and find it... nauseating. None of y'all know shit. Seriously. Not a goddam thing.

The inanities being said here...about Karg Island...about war crimes...are only matched by the absolute LACK of fucking empathy for the impacts of all of this on the citizenry.

But they deserve it, right? Just like the 10's of thousands killed in Gaza.

And then, of course, we have the incredible RISKS of this escalating beyond all control...

We learn nothing. Neither as a country nor as a global society.

Nothing.

That's exactly what all the war crime stuff is about. Hit the power plants, hopefully not the nuclear one, and it not only cuts off power, it also cuts off the water supply to 90% of the people. They have desalination plants all over taking water from the sea and making it drinkable. This requires power. The civilians of Iran, around 30 million, won't last long without water. On top of all this, if desalination plants or power is attacked, Iran said they will target other gulf countries water and power supply. Talk about escalation, cut off basic needs and shit is gonna hit the fan.
