About 10 years ago, I did a lot of work in New Orleans. Not the tourist areas or party spots, but the neighborhoods where all the customers of subprime lenders lived (hope I'm not giving away TMI). When I heard people talking about the devastation left behind after the water went down, I couldn't help but wonder if they didn't understand how bad it already was before the storm.
