Buying Sex in Texas Is Now a Felony

Yeah the risk of getting caught seems to be about the same. The penalty is pretty harsh though. Who the fuck wants a felony on their record. Talk about life ruining Originally Posted by slap

Maybe and I stress maybe a studio and one that currently exists that I know is legit and not a setup. We're all just going to need to be much more careful going forward and post here if the police are running a sting immediately.
At the end of the day the Popo don't have any more personnel than they did before the law goes into effect. If you haven't figured it our yet, all of us probably break the law multiple times a day because there are so many laws on the books.

When the collectivists get done, anything that isn't illegal will be mandatory.

The cops aren't going to have any more man power to go after mongers than they do today... which is minimal. You probably only need to be concerned about raids not working with indies...

There is very little risk if you're sensible... sure everything could go tits up on you one day, but that's true today too.. the risk of being caught hasn't changed just the penalty. Originally Posted by texassapper

I can see where this is going to go and it will hurt the people it's purported to protect. To protect themselves, buyers of sex must demand that no money change hands at the point of service, putting power back into the hands of pimps. Are people ever going to realize that catching the people who do business abusively are easier to find when the business itself is practiced openly?

They just want it to appear like they’re addressing the problem. They don’t care if they actually do.

Police dont care unless they get paid.

Police departments get federal grants for number of arrests made. The anti,-trafficking groups are going to pressure Texas police departments to make arrests, and lobby the feds to withhold money if the police dont deliver

And police depts. will now be able to confiscate your car if you drive to an apointment.

A cop who arrests 10 men for felony solicitation has a ton of paperwork to do, and he will get lots of overtime to fill it all.out and he/she gets paid to appear in court for all the arrests. They make a lot of extra money.

The anti trafficking lobby cares. Police care only about the money they get paid.
So what is considered sex? Does L1 get a felony? Does the Bill Clinton description = Sex?? Or only penetrative sex get the felony???
Will be interesting to see if alot of places move north of the border to open shop. Will we have to go to Oklahoma or Louisiana like we do now for Gambling?? Or to a wet county from a dry county to buy booze. Or another state for pot?? Not sure what the laws are in other states, or is Texas the first, or at least maybe behind California in this??

Just as some of the most well stocked liquor cabinets in the world are in Saudi Arabia...it's not as if Victorian England had so sex outside of marriage. They just wanted the perception to be that they didn't. Several hundred years later, and we still suffer the consequences.

Not Victorian, Puritan. Those are the same people who burned witches at the stake. England didn’t want them, so they came here.

I suspect, though, that even under current law if you “tip” an undercover cop prior to the act you’re in trouble even today. Since I’ve never heard of a female undercover cop completing a sex act in order to secure an arrest, I still hold as long as you don’t mention money* you’re unlikely to get in trouble (possibly a higher risk if you’re caught up in a raid of a spa, but I’m thinking more in the line of sting operations to catch johns).

*you also have to be prepared to bail if the lady insists on entering into such a discussion before any sexual contact (or at least nudity on her part) has occurred.

I hope ShysterJon weighs in on the topic soon. A lot of the more fanciful scenarios discussed in this thread are deserving of comment from a real lawyer with experience in this area. Originally Posted by TinMan
