Buying Sex in Texas Is Now a Felony

They would have been better off regulating it and taxing it and making a little money like they do in Nevada. Abbott can't fuck in wheelchair so he is jealous lol
This is the predictable war on sex now that the war on drugs has been partially lost with weed effectively legalish. The state must assert power by pursuing a moral crusade through a tyranny of the majority. The perceived struggle emotes disgust among many, the most effective sort of political maneuvering.

I think there is some truth that this law will reduce certain kinds of sex trafficking in Texas. It may not reduce overall trafficking in the US though as people will just simply leave Texas. True trafficking is awful and should be fought. Imagine if the tens of thousands of dollars spent jailing just one client that had nothing to do with trafficking instead was spent on actually fighting trafficking!

BTW, this is not communists pushing this legislation, it’s right wing theocratic fascists. It’s only going to get worse. As someone noted above, it may be time to bail. Originally Posted by Fritz52

Looks like July and August could be quite busy.
The Bible thumpers in this state keep voting him into office again and again they love him. I bet you he will be reelected next year too. Never expect this law to be repealed in our lifetimes. Anyone that even mentions it will be committing political suicide. Originally Posted by twitch760

It's because of the media lie that AMPs are trafficking humans, a lie that has been introduced into public consciousness the past few years. The average citizen now believes that girls like ShaSha were kidnapped and forced into having sex for pay and wouldn't be sucking dick otherwise, lol. The bill has bipartisan support -- *of course* it would, as who would be against stopping "human trafficking"?

The lie is the source of the problem. And if you must make it political, figure out which side has much more control of the media and big tech to spread the "human trafficking" lie.

We all agree it’s a terrible law for the hobby. No point in bitching about it.

The big question is what hobby practices need to be amended to minimize the risk? Is it as simple as sticking to established ladies? Does publishing reviews where one admits to paying money for sex put you more at risk?

Looks like it’s time to seek out ShysterJon’s opinion on such matters….

This thread is probably worth following for anyone who is interested in SJ’s take on this. He hasn’t had time to provide analysis yet, but looks like he’s going to try in the coming days:

It's not a simple left / right issue. This was a bipartisan bill. Originally Posted by blastoff87

They use it to push any legislation through.

They played with the definition to render it totally divorced from what people THINK it is:

But a much looser definition, subsequently adopted by the UK's 2003 Sexual Offences Act, uses the word to describe the movement of all sex workers, including willing professionals who are simply travelling in search of a better income. This wider meaning has injected public debate with confusion and disproportionate anxiety.

The police and the media got it wrong. That's typical. "Ninety-nine percent of the headlines are not true," says Brown in my latest video. "Sex trafficking and prostitution are sort of used interchangeably."

What about the headlines that say police are "rescuing victims"?

"By rescue they (mean) put them in jail and give them a criminal record," says Brown. "The victims are the sex workers…getting harassed and locked up in cages by the cops."

Stossel: Moral Panic Over Sex Work

Very rare to find actual convictions, just BS headlines and more BS headlines...

No one was ever charged with human trafficking. In fact, the women providing massages and sex acts—the group that authorities said they were in it to rescue—were the ones who faced the most severe charges.

Criminalization makes sex workers MORE unsafe.

Why shouldn’t sex work be a crime?
Criminalization of sex work compromises sex workers’ health and safety by driving sex work underground. Criminalization includes everything from criminalizing the sale and purchase of sexual services, to blanket prohibitions on management of sex work. Criminalization makes it harder for sex workers to negotiate terms with clients, work together with other sex workers for safety, and carry condoms without fear that they will be used as evidence of prostitution.

Sex workers in many settings report extreme levels of violence and harassment in connection with their work, including from clients, managers, and police. Criminalization makes it difficult for sex workers to report rights violations, especially by the police, because they are vulnerable to incarceration, further abuse, and retribution. This perpetuates stigma, violence, and impunity, which further endanger sex workers’ health and safety.
