Tiger Woods Pays High Price For Divorce

I think that part of the problem was that Tiger tried to keep his personal life and his golf life separate but you really can't. If I had been Elin I'd make sure I was around his tour a lot more than she was. She had to know what kind of temptations are around him. He wins a round or a tournament and she is home, he wants to celebrate and there are any number of women that are willing to help him. It's not like they didn't have the money where she couldn't afford to fly where he was or hire a babysitter. I'm not blaming her. I'm just saying that if I was her I'd have sent a lot more time in his world.

The other thing we tend to do is assume that just because a person can play golf or basketball or what ever that that skill makes them a good human being or that they are skilled in other aspects of their life.

Look at the number of skilled artists and sports people that, while they were very skilled at their trade, were failures in their everyday lives. Van Gogh, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Karen Carpenter, Pete Rose, Mike Tyson to name a few.

Do I few sorry for him, in some ways yes, in some ways no. He let his life get away from him and got his priorities screwed up. Do I feel sorry for her yes. Do I feel sorry for the kids most definitely yes. Both Elin and Tiger thought they could have a story book life and neither figured out that they had to work as hard at it as Tiger did at his golf.
I think it's the star fucker/star sucker syndrome. Somebody (Michael Jackson, Anna Nicole, Lindsey Lohan, Elvis) gets famous gets wealthy and gets 'a free pass'. They are not held to the same accountability as 'normal' people are.

Do I feel sorry for Tiger. NO.

IF he had picked escorts, he probably would not have got caught. And he certainly would have gotten off cheaper. So far, the ONLY known Tiger Tail who didn't talk to the press was Uchitel - a quasi companion?? Yeah he paid her, and she honored that agreement.

Did Elin make him go to 'sex addiction rehab' (whatever the crap that is)? No. But I bet his manager/agent/PR rep did. That crap was all for his "image" aka his endorsement deals aka his $$.

Don't bash his wife - she stayed home and raised his kids while he cheated on the girlfriends he was cheating on his wife with. And he cheated on all of them because he thought he was "Tiger Woods".

His wife handled this with complete class when she could have skinned him alive - in his pro life, in his home life, and in his financial life. She didn't take more than half, he has co-custody and she hasn't trashed him.

Divorce - wise: he got off pretty dang well.

Too many things we do not know.

Tiger is a golfer, not a religious figure. He's a golfer, not a role model. He's a golfer, not a legislator who makes laws or a governor who enforces them.

We have no clue what the real situation was or might have been. Originally Posted by Laurentius

Once you reach a certain level in your field where you are paid to make endorsements for products then you ARE a role model.

Once you become a public figure then certain parameters of decorum are expected.

Tiger's main problem, I think was his arrogance and stubbornness.

He did not even want to come out quickly and make a contrite and sincere apology. He was judged in the court of public opinion and found guilty and Elin decided to skin him alive.

When his handlers finally made him understand the need to make a public apology, it was too late and his "apology" had a hollow ring.

I'll stand corrected on that.

It is pretty well known that there's a reason why the ratio of providers to population is so high in Washington, DC. But it is also well known that the very reason to use a provider is to maintain discretion and decorum.

It's when people deviate from that -- or use public resources to do it -- that they run into issues.

Either way, I'll stand corrected in general on this point. You're right -- when a guy is getting product endorsements and the like, there are certain expectations.

On the other hand, I still maintain that it is quite common for wives of wealthy and/or powerful men to accept infidelity so long as it is discreet. Clearly, Tiger was less than discreet.

GB Shaw said, and I'm paraphrasing, that a normal woman would prefer a 1/10th share of a first rate man over a 100% share in a third rate man.

In the modern era, this pretty much translates to wealth in most (though admittedly not all) environments.

The only thing that I'm even mildly curious about is what sort of legal advice each person received and whether they followed it. And that is a professional curiosity on my part as I'm a lawyer and it appears to me that Elin's attorneys out lawyered Tiger's attorneys by a wide margin. Of course that may have been because their client didn't follow their advice.

I mean, lawyers are professionally trained not to have any feelings aren't they? I heard that lawyers have their hearts surgically removed (tongue in cheek) before they can pass the bar exam which is what allows them to charge such exorbitant fees with a straight face? On your oath, do you deny these allegations, counselor?

I think the rest of us mere mortals, care about this story because Tiger Woods had the American Dream handed to him on a silver platter, yet he foolishly destroyed it because he became so damn arrogant.

Tiger Woods had a wonderful life just playing golf and had a beautiful trophy wife that most guys can only dream about, but he became so reckless and idiotically destroyed it all! I don't know Tiger personally either, but I can empathize with him and it pains me to see him lose so much for being so stupid.

The is a deep moral to this story that we all can learn from and makes it compelling as a Greek Tragedy slowly unraveling and we still don't know the full story behind the story!

I don't feel sorry for him or her or the situation. What I'm feeling sorry for is the fact that our media has to put this story on blast and soooo many ppl really care! Yes he is a pro golf player who is obviously loaded and obviously he is guilty of the same thing so many other ppl are guilty of. Infidelity happens everyday everywhere in every social and economical circle. It's been going on since the beginning of time! And I guarantee its not stopping anytime soon! I just really don't think Tiger or anyone else in his stature should be called out and frowned upon cuz he is in the public eye. Just my opinion!
Years ago, on the TV Show Dallas, Sue Ellen was asked why she stayed married to that scoundrel JR. She said there were many benefits in being Mrs. JR Ewing.

Tiger Woods is still Tiger Woods, with all his skills. All he has to do is set his mind to it, win some tounaments, and he will be on top again.

All his ex wife will be is just that, his ex wife.

Plus, he still has his earning capacity, albeit slightly dented. And he's free to fuck half of Orlando and all of Las Vegas flat. What's not to like?

If you think you are gainning "Points" with your Provider.
She will drop a dime on your silly ass in a heart beat if things are in her favor to do so. You will always just be a "Client", No matter how much you spend, how often you see her, or what your status is. To All the WK's out there, Let this Thread be your Guide.

This story is so old, and has spawned so many threads on this board, I'm surprised this one is still alive. Let it die. It's an old story with few, if any, pertinent issues.
