I didn't see anyone mention this, but my kids have been dragging me Freddy's lately and I have to admit those steak burgers are pretty good. But Chris Madrids has always been my favorite.
Piedmontese hamburger at Bolner's Meat Market. No steroids or growth enhancers, Naturally raised and low fat low cholesterol beef. That is good hamburger. Why not eat the best, be nice to your body.Remember, you are what you eat.

Little Hips Idiot Delight was the greatest burger in S. Texas. Got to miss Little Hips and their turtle Luther. Chris Madrids is current champ with Chesters running close.
And Captain, "you bet your sweet ass I am."
Alamo Springs Cafe east of Comfort
I went to this place...nice drive if your GPS still works.. but the burger was pricy & just average, got the Onion Rings.. yuck.. batter was just flower.. wont make the trip back..

I Have to nominate CBQ eatery in schertz. Selma Speedtrap burger is the way to go in my opnion. Tell me you don't like Cheddar, Chicken fried bacon, and a fried egg on top! Originally Posted by Ozzie Bollocks

Nobody mentioned Bracken Cafe? Heresy.

Okay, you want Old School. You need to try Joe's on Blanco. Small white shack 1/2 mile North of Chris Madrids on the opposite side of the road. Been there about 40 yrs or so. I have been going for about 20. Sells 2 burgers, regular & large for like $1 & $1.50...Very limited menu but defintely a winner...

Wow so many choices for burgers in San Antonio! Where do I begin? lol I like a good greasy cheeseburger, slip sliding with mayo and extra tomato. Where should I go for that?

Hey Pavin, Try the Ironhorse Grill in New Braunfels. If you order the burger with extra tomatoes then juice and mayo will be dripping off your elbows by the time you're done. Good fries, cold beer and a great patio with live music (if you're lucky).

That Chris Madrid's looks pretty yummy as well!
.....I guess that's why I like something as simple as Fuddruckers
one of their cheeseburgers with extra cheese and then you can PILE all the tomatoes and mayonnaise on it that you want.....
(personally - I like relish and tomatoe with salt and pepper)

I made a pretty bad-ass burger at my house the other day. This puppy weighed in at over 2 pounds, and was eaten across about 3 meals! Basically, it was a combo of pork an lean beef blended together and bound by an egg, and some bread crumbs. Just enough to hold it together, and not make it into a meatloaf though.

Then, I flattened out two patties and put a mixture of bleu cheese and sharp cheddar on one paddy, threw in some lightly grilled fresh jalapeno slices, and then placed the other atop it, crimping the edges to make a sealed unit which look like a UFO.

Then, I grilled that beauty on the BBQ pit over some hickory, oak and charcoal until the inards were starting to bubble out ever so-slightly.

Then, I placed it atop a large, thick, piece of sourdough bread which I pan-grilled with some colby, placed the meat monstrosity atop the bread, topped that with onions, mushroom, bell pepper, and jalapeno which was grilled/sautted together to perfect unity, add some tomato, pickle, mustard and ketchup, and I had a hell of a feast! Like I said, I couldn't take it down in one sitting.

It lasted over several meals, and damn was it good! I like the idea of doing it again only topping it with an onion ring and BBQ sauce like the burger Dennis talked about. If I didn't swear off the bad food for my diet, I would try an encore, bu it will have to wait! Originally Posted by Marcus78

Thanks a lot for all those details.... I am SO friggin hungry right now!! (at 10:20pm)
I probably gained 5 pounds just reading this thread!

Chris Madrids was to die for... I haven't had a to die for burger since GBG (RIP).
I've had really good burgers at Hooters and EZs.

For fast: Dairy Queen or Whataburger they both are that "plain" wholesome type burger you could make at home but without the trouble.

Good occasionally for variety/speed are McDonalds and Jack in the Box, but they have their own (weird) unique taste about them. They taste good, they just don't taste like hamburger! ijs
